Another mountainous stage for Tony today, dominated by two big climbs. The first is the Col de la Croix de Fer (the Pass of the Iron Cross), a Hors Categorie climb with an ascent 1522m over 30km with an average gradient of 5.1%. Thankfully the gradient never reaches the extremes of yesterday's climb.
The other big climb is into the finish, La Toussuire, a Category 1 climb with an ascent of 1145m over 17.5km with an average gradient of 6.5%.
The saving grace for Tony today is the stage is relatively short, a mere 138km compared to yesterday's 186.5km. However to put in perspective that is like cycling from Edinburgh to St Andrews, back to Edinburgh and then out to Falkirk, whilst going over Ben Nevis twice!
